Before We Go To WAR

By  Starlene Stringer

We sadly remember recent victims we’ve lost,

But rushing to WAR could come at a great cost.

Remember the Persian Gulf and even Vietnam,

There were hundreds- no thousands that never came home.

The ones who make the decisions they don’t go and fight,

They’ll be with their families at the end of each night.

I’m not saying our military men shouldn’t go,

This is just a reminder of things you should know.

Our Armed Forces are smaller than in years past,

Because when it comes to pay raises…they’re usually last.

The people we idol aren’t the men in uniform,

Unless it represents the sports team they’re on.

We praise entertainers, celebrities, stars,

The responsibility for changing this is totally ours.

What will you do if you’re called to fight,

Are you willing to die for the red, blue and white?

Knowing we have less equipment and men to help out,

Just one more thing to think about.

So the next time you see someone in the Navy, Army, Airforce or Marines,

Remember this poem and think of these things.

Then salute him or give him a smile,

Simple things they haven’t seen in awhile.

If we do go to war if a battle begins,

When everything is over does anyone win?

There’s one way we can make sure that we do,

Give love and respect to those willing to give their life

For me and for you.
